Hawk Eye (Takaki Takemura, "we") makes Crayon Pets (クレヨンペット, "the app"), a game about living with crayon puppies and kittens, for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac (App Store), Android (Google Play and our website) and Windows and Linux (our website). This policy explains what information the app and our website (https://crayonpets.com) handle, and why.
What stays on your device
Your pets, rooms, belongings, coins, diary and focus timer records are kept on your device, and they are gone when you delete the app. Only if you use "Keeping your save" below is a copy stored on our server.
Friends
When you use friends, Google Firebase anonymous sign-in creates a user ID that does not include your name. To show your home to your friends, your player name, your pets' names and looks, your room, your friend code, your friend list, records of visits, letters and presents (letters are chosen from set phrases; you cannot write your own), and records of invitations and trips together are stored in Firebase (Cloud Firestore). Friends you add can see them. Please don't use a real name or anything else that identifies a person as your player name or your pets' names.
The email account (Android and computer versions from our website)
The Android and computer versions from our website use an account that signs in with an email address, so that what you buy works on your other devices too.
- The email address you enter is sent to our server, which makes a six-digit code and sends it to that address through the email service MailerSend (opens and clicks are not tracked).
- Our server stores neither the email address nor the code itself. It stores: an ID made from the email address with a keyed one-way hash (the address cannot be recovered from it); a hash of the code (it stops working after 10 minutes); how many codes were sent and how many wrong codes were entered (against guessing; deleted within days); a record for each signed-in device (a hash of its key, when it was created and last used, and the app's kind and version; up to 5 devices at a time, removed after 400 days unused); and when the account was created and last signed in.
- The email address is also kept on your device, to show which address you are signed in with.
- You can delete the account at any time in the app's settings, or by writing to us (see "Keeping and deleting data" below).
Keeping your save
On devices signed in with the email account, a copy of your game data (your save) is kept on our server (Google Cloud, Firebase), so that you can carry on after reinstalling or on a new device.
- What is kept: your game data from the device, compressed, with when it was made, the app's kind and version, its size and its SHA-256 hash. Sign-in keys and device IDs are not included. We do not read what is inside.
- To show which device a save came from, a hash of a random per-device ID is recorded with it.
- The newest 10 saves and one a day for the last 30 days are kept; older ones are deleted automatically. Deleting the account deletes all its saves.
Purchases on our website (Paddle)
Purchases in the Android and computer versions from our website are sold by our online reseller Paddle.com as the Merchant of Record.
- Paddle collects what it needs for the purchase (your email address, country and postcode, payment details and so on) and handles it under Paddle's privacy policy. We never receive your card details.
- We give Paddle only the IDs and quantities of the items. We never give it your player ID or anything about your friends.
- Paddle tells our server about purchases, refunds and changes to subscriptions, and our server stores: which account (the email ID above) started the payment; Paddle's transaction and customer IDs; the items, amount, currency and date; the status (valid, refunded and so on); the list of items you keep for good; items not yet received, with the device that received them (a random ID per device) and when; and the Snuggle Club's plan, end date and Paddle subscription ID.
- In Paddle's dashboard we can see orders, including the email address entered at checkout. We use this only to answer your questions and handle refunds.
App Store and Google Play purchases
In-app purchases and the Snuggle Club are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We receive only confirmation that a purchase was made, never your payment details.
Ads
- The app shows an ad only when you choose to watch one for a reward, such as refilling your play points or doubling your coins or a souvenir. Ads are limited to content suitable for all ages (G). The computer versions have no ads.
- Ads are served by Google AdMob. In the App Store and Google Play versions, AppLovin and Unity Ads also bid for them through AdMob. The Android version from our website uses AdMob only.
- These companies may use your device's advertising identifier, IP address, device type and the like to serve and measure ads. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and some other places, you are asked for consent first. You can change how the advertising identifier is used in your device's settings (Tracking on iPhone, Ads on Android).
Crash reports
To fix problems, the app reports crashes and errors with Sentry: the device model, OS version, app version and the error. It is set not to send anything that identifies you, such as names or IP addresses.
Anonymous usage
To improve the app, TelemetryDeck counts anonymous, aggregated usage: screens opened, which mini games were played and how they ended, minutes focused, what kinds of items were bought, and the like. It includes no names or belongings and is not linked to you.
Update checks and downloads
- The Android and computer versions from our website ask our server whether a new version is out (sending only the app's kind and version).
- Downloads from our website are counted only per day, country and file (IP addresses are not stored). The files are delivered by Cloudflare.
Server logs
Like any web service, our servers (Google Cloud, Firebase) record for each request the time, IP address, the address requested, the app's kind and version, and the result. Email addresses and codes are never recorded. We use these logs only to run the service, investigate problems and prevent abuse, and they are deleted automatically after about 30 days.
Weather
To match the sky in the window to the real weather, the latitude and longitude of the city you choose in settings are sent to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute's (MET Norway) forecast service. Your device's location is not used.
Checking the time
To keep the game fair when the device clock is changed, the app checks the time on the internet (from the response of a request to google.com).
Our website
Our website uses no cookies. It counts how often each page is seen and the app's store buttons are tapped with Umami (aggregated numbers only, such as countries, kinds of device and the site you came from; Umami uses no cookies either and keeps nothing that identifies you, such as your IP address). The payment page loads Paddle's checkout script (Paddle.js); Paddle may use cookies and similar technology for the payment.

Providers abroad
We entrust the companies above with handling information as far as their service needs. They are in the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and elsewhere, and information may be handled on servers in those countries. We choose companies that take measures to protect personal information.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your information.
- We don't show ads unless you choose to watch one.
- We don't let players write and send free text to each other.
Keeping and deleting data
- Data on your device is deleted with the app.
- To delete data stored for friends, contact us at the address below.
- When you delete the email account, its records on our server (sign-ins, when it was created and last used, the record of your belongings, your kept saves, and which purchases belong to it) are deleted at once. While the Snuggle Club is set to renew, the account cannot be deleted: please cancel the club first. The records of the purchases themselves (Paddle's transaction ID, items, amount, date, whether refunded) are kept without the link to the account, for tax and refunds. After deletion, purchases made on our website can no longer be restored. If purchases were stopped on the account (for example after repeated refunds), that record (the ID made from the email address) is kept for 400 days after deletion.
- Paddle keeps its own records of orders, as tax law and the like require.
Children's privacy
The app is made so that children can play it too, and we do not knowingly collect children's personal information. Friends work with an anonymous ID that includes no name, and letters are chosen from set phrases. The email account and purchases are meant for parents and guardians: please use a parent's or guardian's email address, and check a child's purchases. If you think a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your rights
You can ask us to tell you what information we hold about you, and to correct, delete or stop using it (rights under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information, the EU's GDPR and similar laws). Write to us at the address below. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app changes. Important changes appear here with the date, and in the app.
